Jaime Hernandez: The 1976 Eisenhower Dollar had a one year reverse design displaying the Liberty Bell as well as an image of the moon in the background. 1976 Eisenhower Dollars were actually struck in 1975 but had the date of 1976 on the actual coins. The 1976 Type 1 is the scarcer variety from the Type I and Type II variations struck this year. The 1976 Liberty silver dollar was minted to celebrate America's bicentennial year. The coin still featured Eisenhower on the obverse side of the coin-like other silver dollars of that time-but the reverse side of the coin was changed from an eagle to the Liberty Bell. The value of a 1976 Bicentennial Eisenhower dollar coin depends on a number of factors, the most important being the condition of the particular coin. Average values range from $1.05 to $15.00. The difference between dealer prices and purchasing costs can also affect the value. The coins were struck during 1975 and 1976, although all coins carry the dual date “1776-1976.” The Type 1 coins are generally encountered in lower grades and were minted in smaller numbers as compared to the Type 2 coins. A total of eight different 1976 Eisenhower Dollars exist as a result of the varieties. The 1976, 1976-D, and 1976-S. 1976 Type II Dollar — The Type II 1976 dollar has more refined, serifed lettering on the reverse and is more common. None of the 40% silver uncirculated or proof 1976 dollars are of the Type II variety. Circulated Type II dollars are worth about $1.05 to $1.10. Uncirculated Type II 1976 dollars have a value of $3 or more.
