Anthony dollars were created and issued by the United States Mint to honor Susan B. Anthony as a pioneer in women's rights. However they failed to gain widespread public acceptance due to their similarity with the quarter in size, color and reeded edge. This coin featuring Susan B. Anthony was first issued by the United States Mint in 1979 and it replaced the Eisenhower Dollar. This was the first time that a woman appeared on a circulating coin. The coin was minted from 1979-1981 and again in 1999. This coin was legislated on October 10, 1978 under the presidential term of Jimmy Carter. This copper-nickel clad coin is the first U.S. Small-size dollar coin. Anthony Dollars were issued 1979-1981 and a final time in 1999. The obverse of the Susan B. Anthony Dollar depicts the pioneer of women’s rights. The reverse honors the 1969 lunar landing. Engraver Frank Gasparro designed the Susan B. Anthony Dollars.
